Green Creek Archery Club brings home silver

The Green Creek Archery Club brought home three silver medals from the Georgia Archery Association’s State Outdoor Championship that was held on Sept. 20-21.
Archers Rachel Roberson, Josh Streacker and Phil Burney all came in second in their classes, while Rick Burney missed third place in his class by a mere two points.
Burney’s class was so competitive that the score he shot would have placed first in every older division, as he only gave up 82 points out of 1440.
The team had a fun weekend and is now practicing for the NC State Outdoor Championship, which will be held on Sunday, Oct. 26 at the Green Creek Community
Center. They are expecting archers from Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee to come and compete.
In a separate tournament, Coach Jim Vennera participated in the N.C. Senior Games in Raleigh on Sept. 27 and brought home the gold. It is Coach Vennera’s goal to
make the 2016 Para-Olympic team and he is practicing hard and going to every tournament he can to make sure he makes the team. The club is proud of the
coach’s ambition and is rooting him on to the team.
Those who are interested in archery and would like to learn to shoot a bow, the club meets on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. for open shooting and Thursdays at 7 p.m. for the JOAD (Junior Olympic Archery Development) practice at the Green Creek Community Center. For more information, contact Steve Burney at Foothills Pharmacy, 828-894-6112.
