On Sept. 11, Mrs. Richardson’s second grade class at Polk Central Elementary discussed what Patriot’s Day is all about. The students were very curious about the events that occurred on Sept. 11, 2001. Mrs. Richardson read an ebook entitled, “The 2001 World Trade Center” and then followed up with a discussion on what a patriot really is.  “A patriot is someone who loves, supports, and defends his or her own country,” Mrs. Richardson told the class. The culminating activity for the day was to have the students write an acrostic poem using the work “Patriot.”
