Calvert’s Kitchen at 306 E. Mills St. will mark its thirteenth anniversary this Saturday, Aug. 16.
Owner Randall Calvert said that little has changed over the years at this popular gathering spot in the heart of Columbus, but that he is grateful for the regular stream of customers.
“I am thankful for all the people who come here to eat. But I am especially thankful to those who come every day,” said Calvert.
He added that even with the addition of other restaurants nearby, his customer stream remains strong.
“We’ve always had competition. It seems that the more competition we have, the busier we get,” said Calvert.
The restaurant accommodates 100 people. A year after opening, he added a back room for private events that seats 20.
“The menu has stayed pretty much the same through the years,” said Calvert.
Pork tenderloin, spaghetti, and chicken and dumplings are staples for Tuesday through Thursday respectively. Weekends feature a fish fry, and this anniversary weekend is no different.
Eight people work in the restaurant, with Calvert, his wife Kimberly, his daughter Kelly, and Pam Owensby doing the cooking. Calvert’s is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m.- 8 p.m., and 11:30 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Saturday.
