The newest exhibit at the Holy Cross Gallery is by Margaret Davis, well-known local landscape artist.
Margaret is the grand-daughter of well know Tryon artist, J.S. Brown. She has been active in the arts for many years, including service as the past Vice-President of the Tryon Painters and Sculptors.
Her folk art paintings have been chosen for the Williamsburg Virginia American Art Collection. Davis is also known for her weaving and fiber art.
She has studied oil painting with North Carolina artists Jim Crompton, Andy Braitman and Jim Carson.
Davis loves to travel and study with Master Artists who have included Kevin Macpherson, Scott Christiansen, Camille Przewodek and Ken Auster. She has painted in Sedona, Canyon de Chelly, Taos and Victor, Idaho. She will be returning to Taos, New Mexico this summer to study with Kevin Macpherson.
In between trips, Margaret also teaches oil painting at Tryon Painters and Sculptors.
She holds membership with Tryon Painters and Sculptors, Tryon Arts & Crafts, the American Impressionist Society and the Oil Painters of America (Associate).
The Holy Cross Gallery is within the church building at 150 Melrose Avenue in the historic Melrose neighborhood.
The gallery features talented local artist in several media with exhibits which rotate every two months.
