Prayer of thorns

To the editor:
Throughout American history the practice of opening legislative meetings with a prayer has been a thorny issue that continues to be argued before the Supreme Court.
Though such prayers are allowed, they should not express the political and personal biases of the individuals who deliver them, especially anyone representing a religious organization. Pastor Olson’s prayer at the county commissioners’ meeting was inappropriate, offensive and divisive — and un-Christian.
Olson owes the citizens of Polk County an apology.
In addition, the commissioners should review and approve every prayer in advance to prevent something like this from happening again.
