Spirit of community makes our area special

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – we are so blessed to live, work and play in the foothills. This place is like no other I have experienced. Lots of places lay claim to the fact that they are unique but our area truly is something to brag about far and wide.
Perhaps it has something to do with my coming home “so to speak “ that I find myself so comfortable here. It seems not a month goes by that I don’t discover another family relationship with someone in the area. I’m sure that has something to do with it for me personally but in talking with others I believe there is more to it than that.
One of the things that makes this area stand out is people here really know how to have fun. We get involved, and while we are certainly not perfect and have our individual opinions, we still manage to pull together, get things done and have fun doing it. We may be small in numbers but looking at the event calendar you would think we were a big city! There is always something to do here.
Last weekend was the 20th Anniversary of the BBQ festival at Harmon Field. Hundreds of volunteers pitched in with no expectation of pay to make the event a great success for us, and the many visitors to our community. There were orange volunteer shirts everywhere you looked and smiles on faces, people having a good time. Our Carolina Foothills Chamber of Commerce executive director Janet Sciacca and special events coordinator Christina Feagan, along with board members could be seen busy organizing, giving out directions, answering questions and doing whatever it took to ensure a successful event. It was a community effort and it was fun. Thank you to all those involved.
