On Saturday, June 2, the community came together and packed 38,000 meals for the children of Haiti through the Stop Hunger Now program. These meals will join others from Western North Carolina and will be shipped to Haitian Outreach ministries. There the meals will be fed to children each day at lunch as they attend school. For some this will be the only meal they receive that day. The event was organized by the Rotary Club of Tryon. In addition to community volunteers, major contributors included Tryon Congregational Church, Holy Cross Episcopal Church, First Baptist Church of Tryon, Tryon Presbyterian Church, Trinity Lutheran Church, members of Kiwanis Club, members of the Rotary Club of Tryon and the Rotary Club of Tryon Foundation. The community provided $9,500 to purchase these meals and individuals in the community packed the meals. (photo submitted by Charles McKeller)
