Plans are being made now for the 16th Annual Green Creek School Reunion, which will be held on Sunday, June 10, 2012. This all inclusive reunion will be held at the former school from 2 until 5 p.m. Everyone who was a student or a teacher at Green Creek School is encouraged to come to this reunion, regardless of when, or how long they were there. Families and friends are always welcome.
For the 78 years that Green Creek School was in operation, thousands of students passed through the doors there. Each year, as we gather in the cafeteria of the former school, the excitement and enthusiasm is amazing! Happy voices fill the cafeteria as old friends meet and greet each other, sometimes for the first time since they were students there. Each year, people of all ages stand to sing the school’s Alma Mater together, some with their right hand over their heart, others with tears glistening.
The first annual Green Creek School Reunion was held on the second Sunday in June in 1997. It was a huge success. The late Bob Balme (local newspaper editor) estimated 400 to 500 people attended that first reunion. Since that time, many former students have died, so the numbers of attendees get smaller and smaller as each year passes, but each year, we have some former students present who haven’t attended a reunion before. Former students attending from past years traveled from many states, including California, New Mexico, Louisiana, Texas, Maine, New York, Georgia, Florida, Utah, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. If you, your family or friends have ties to Green Creek School, come to this reunion on June 10. You will be glad you did.
