There were only two other churches in (present day) Polk County at the time she started that church. The other church was ARP and was located only two miles away, at Hillcrest School.
The Associate Reformed (ARP) Presbyterian Church women had built Hillcrest Institute in 1915. The merger (or reorganization as it was sometimes called) took place four years later. This merger was very unusual in those days but it worked. Deacons and elders were chosen from both churches. Among them were Claude Jolley, Watt Greenway, Frank Rodgers, John Willard, S.B. Weaver, Arthur Whitesides, Mort Cornwell, Leroy Smith, N.M. Brannon, J.S. Watson and Howard Turner. Most of these early church leaders still have relatives living in this area roday.
Happy birthday to Tim Hines, Kerry Ford, Defoy Johnson, Kay Gee, David Pusey, Chris Pittman, Clifford Collins, Amy Maddox, Caroline Sauve, Lily Grace Maddox and Margaret Collins. Among those couples celebrating their wedding anniversaries this month are Chris and Melanie Smith, Marsha and Keith White, Floyd and Janet Sauve and Julie and Lyles Stott. Congratulations to all of you!
