The faint sound of life ready for spring ahead, grass awakening

Sometimes we get overwhelmed with so many things on our plate, that we miss out on those small tender things that bring us back to the good earth, the pleasure of listening to the breeze whisper around us, the sweetness of the day we’ve been given. On a soft, deliciously warm afternoon, working on sculpture projects out on the back deck, I swear I heard things growing, the faint sound of life ready for spring ahead: leaves unfurling, the grass awakening. If any one wants to pull ivy, I know where plenty is!
Dog lovers note: we have the Saluda Dog Society, which helps rescue and assist our four-footed friends. Email saludadogsociety@yahoo.com or contact Pat Waring for information at 749-1332. Meetings are held on the first Friday of every month, currently at the Parish Hall of the Episcopal Church. Saluda is the biggest dog-loving town I’ve ever found: which says much about the big hearts in this neck of the woods.
Along Main Street, you can see our snazzy trash receptacles, each an unique work of art. Benches beckon. Shops are starting to get busy: spring brings folks to town — plus the good food (and music) here (you’ll notice I always have to mention that!). I spotted John Rhodes out enjoying a ‘bench sit’ recently.
Saluda Elementary School news: PTSO is selling value cards as a fundraiser: and the cards support local businesses. PTSO funds are used to provide each student at Saluda Elementary School with five free books each year. You can purchase your value card at the school office, city hall or Green River BBQ. March 29 is the Spring Informance at 5:30 p.m. and is Box Tops Collection Day. Our very own Saluda School principal is Ronette Dill. How lucky we are to have her — she’s been at Saluda School for a long time, both as teacher and as principal.
Happy March Birthday to: Faye Chandler, Monica Pace, Marge Crabbe, Genell Jespersen, Charlene Pace, Valerie Mintz, Sheldon Mintz, Curtis Pace, Anita Odgen Moore, Lloyd Thompson, Charles Weinhagen, Ron Poole, Kevin Kerr, Catherine Ross and Jane Fox.
