Nicola Rountree-Williams of Tryon won a Silver Medal at the Nastar National Ski Racing Championships.
The three-day competition took place March 25 through 28 at Winter Park Resort in Colorado.
Rountree-Williams competed against 11 other regional champions in the seven to eight year old category over three days.
Her fastest time over the three-day event of 29.38 seconds placed her just 4/10ths of a second out of the Gold Medal position.
“I came to the Nationals this year hoping to do better than my Bronze Medal last year” she said. “I did it. Now, I have to try and get a Gold Medal next year.”
To qualify for the National Championships, Rountree-Williams raced on NASTAR courses at Sugar Mountain in Boone, N.C., Deer Valley in Park City, Utah and Alpine Meadows in Lake Tahoe, Ca. throughout the 2009-2010 ski season.
She took home a Gold Medal at Alpine Meadows Resort to secure her place at the championships. Rountree-Williams took home a Bronze Medal at the 2009 NASTAR Nationals in Steamboat, Co. in the five to six year old division.
Rountree-Williams is a second grader at Tryon Elementary School.
She also enjoys swimming and is a member of the River Valley Pony Club of the Carolinas. She is the daughter of Robert Williams and Elizabeth Rountree of Tryon.
