St. Luke’s Thrift Shop in downtown Tryon announces plans to offer special discounts on selected days in the coming year.

“Following the lead of our local IGA, on Wednesdays we will offer a 10 percent senior citizen discount, 65 and over, off the total of each purchase,” said Julie Fike, manager of the unique downtown shop located at 148 N. Trade Street. “And each Saturday we will offer a 10 percent discount to all active and retired military personnel.”

“Obviously these two promotional days are intended to generate foot traffic, but it’s also our way of saying ‘Thank you’ to our customers, old and new,” Fike said.

“Thrift shopping is becoming more and more popular because of the always evolving inventory and low prices,” Fike said. “We hope these promotional days will generate even more interest.”

On any given day, shoppers can find everything from household furniture to little worn fashion. The quaint shop is managed by St. Luke’s Hospital Auxiliary and features excellent prices for gently used and designer apparel, accessories and household goods. Sales of these donated items benefit the local hospital.

“All net profits go toward supporting St. Luke’s Hospital. This past year the auxiliary was able to donate $50,000 toward the purchase of a variety of much-needed equipment,” John Calure, auxiliary president, said.  “Also, when spring cleaning or downsizing, please consider donating to our thrift shop those things you no longer want or need. For furniture and larger items, just call the shop at 828-859-6850, and we’ll be happy to schedule a pick up.”

“Our busy shop could use more volunteers so if you can spare a few hours a week, we would love to have you come join our volunteers at the shop,” Calure said. “Please, call us or come by, introduce yourself, and complete an application.”

Volunteers are vital to the thrift shop and to St. Luke’s Hospital, and their service is greatly appreciated. For more information, please call 828-894-0895.
