Offer made for dental office; upset bid process begins
Tryon Town Council has agreed to sell property located near the town’s train depot. Dr. John Hooker, a dentist who currently has an office with Dr. Mark McCall on Pacolet Street, has made an offer of $8,000 for the property.
Hooker said he plans to construct a dental office that aesthetically complements the nearby depot.
Tryon Town Council met Tuesday, Nov. 15 and approved a resolution of intent to sell the property. The town must complete an upset bid process, which includes 10 days of taking other offers prior to selling the property.
Council agreed to specify that whoever submits an upset bid will need to construct a building within 120 days.
Tryon Mayor Alan Peoples said Dr. Hooker has indicated he is ready to break ground on construction of the building.
“My understanding is they want to build something that complements the depot,” said Peoples.
The property is approximately 0.47 acres and lies off the depot parking lot. Bordered on the north by the railroad track, the property is 225 feet long and just under 100 feet wide.
Council will consider accepting a bid during its Dec. 20 meeting.
