Program on how Polk mountains got names Feb. 16

On Wednesday, Feb. 16 in the Steps to HOPE meeting room in Columbus, Anna Pack Conner, noted local historian and a member of the eighth generation of her family to live in Polk County, will discuss the Polk County mountains and how they got their names. The meeting is open to the public and starts at 1 p.m.
Anna is known to many locals as their high school business education teacher. To others she is known for her community involvement on the boards of the Tryon Little Theater, the Tryon Fine Arts Center, Isothermal Community College – Polk Campus Foundation and as past president of the Tryon branch of the American Association of University Women.
During her first retirement, she wrote and published “Tryon: An Illustrated History” and a book of poetry and short stories titled “To Be Or To Seem.” She also wrote a column for the Tryon Daily Bulletin titled “People of Polk County.”
Currently Anna Connor serves as president of the Polk County Historical Association. She teaches a course on Polk County history at Isothermal Community College.
