Lillian S. Green

Lillian S. Green, 93, formerly of 375 Jackson St., Tryon, entered into an eternal and peaceful rest on Feb. 5, 2011 at Autumn Care of Saluda.
Mrs. Lillian was born on May 17, 1917 in Newberry, S.C., to the late Lula and Zack Swindler.
She was raised by her grandmother, Clara Cannon, and graduated from Drayton Street High School in 1936.
Mrs. Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip W. Green; two brothers, Willie and Robert Swindler; and one son, Phillip Green Jr. (Vietnam War vet).
Mrs. Lillian was a loyal employee of Oak Hall Hotel for many years before retiring from domestics. She was also a faithful and active member of Garrison Chapel Baptist Church before her illness took a big toll on her ability to get around. Through it all, our Lord and Savior gave her grace and safely guided her through.
Mrs. Lillian is survived by her three sons, Richard and Marvin of Tryon and Cornel Berry Sr. of Evergreen, Ala.; two daughter-in-laws, Maggie Green of Mt. Vernon, N.Y., and Ora Green of Tryon.
She was the loving grandmother of 22 and the great-grandmother of 21, and is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends and congregational sisters and brothers as well.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Garrison Chapel Baptist Church, Tryon, conducted by Rev. Keith D. Knox Sr., pastor.
