Ed Klatte

Edward Pendleton Klatte, of Tryon died Friday, December 3, 2010 at the age of 85 in Smith Phayer Hospice House in Landrum.

Mr. Klatte was born in Kansas City, KS, and was the son of the late Louis and Marieta McClay Klatte. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy, in the Pacific Theater on the USS Intrepid. A graduate of U.S.C. in Columbia, SC, he was a glass engineer for RCA in Marion, IN, before retiring in 1985. Ed was past president of the Tryon Kiwanis Club, a volunteer for Meals On Wheels, a past board member of Polk Vocational Services, and an active member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross, Tryon.

Surviving are his wife: Audrey Brown Klatte of the home; four sons, Neill of Indiana, Stuart of Leesburg, FL, Andrew (Peggy) of Indianapolis, IN, and David of Tryon, NC. One stepdaughter, Marianne Brown of Tryon. One grandson, Joshua Klatte and fiance, Alisha. Two sisters-in-law, Joan Rhinehart of MA and Hazel Graff of Hondo, TX.

Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 13, 2010 in the Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross, Tryon, with Father Michael Doty officiating.

Interment will be in the Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross Memorial Gardens.
