Melissa Le Roy (left) recently escorted three local WWII veterans, Paul Nelson (right), Grover Whitmire (second from right) and Roger Traxler on a trip to Washington, D.C. to visit the WWII memorial via HonorAir. HonorAir is a program sponsored by the WNC Rotary District 7670 and the Rotary Club of Tryon that gives veterans the opportunity to see the WWII memorial. The memorial was dedicated in 2004 for a generation whose youngest members are in their late 70s, so many of the men and women who fought in WWII have not had the opportunity or ability to visit the memorial. Le Roy is a member of the Rotary Club of Tryon and the executive director of the Foothills Equestrian Nature Center (FENCE).&bsp; (photo submitted)
