Tryon Estates, located at 617 Laurel Lake Drive in Columbus, will host the AARP CAR FIT event on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the administrative building. The event is open to the public and there is no cost.
At the CAR FIT event, trained volunteers will, in approximately 20 minutes, talk drivers through a 12-point safety checklist to determine such safety factors as:
• Whether the drivers are positioned correctly and safely in the driver’s seat
• Whether they can reach all brake, clutch and gas pedals easily
• Whether they know how to adjust all mirrors properly to reduce rear vision “blind spots”
• Understanding and use of Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), now installed on most automobiles
• Understanding of other safety and fitness features of the automobile.
