Tryon, Columbus arrest two on counterfeiting charges

The Tryon and Columbus Police Departments have arrested two suspects in a local counterfeiting ring.
Bryan Kerrol-Roy Nelson, 24, of Tryon was arrested and charged of two counts of fraud, two counts of obtaining property by a false pretense and two counts of uttering a forged document, according to the Tryon Police Department.
Tyler Hamilton, 18, of Forest City was arrested by the Columbus Police Department and charged with three counts of fraud, three counts of obtaining property by false pretense and three counts of uttering a forged instrument.
Tryon Police Chief Jeff Arrowood says that the two were charged after passing counterfeit money to several local businesses, including the Royalty Food Store in Tryon and the Columbus ABC Store, Subway, Roadrunner and the Burger King in Columbus.
Arrowood says the suspects are accused of passing counterfeit $100 bills between June 26 and June 27, 2010. The suspects were videotaped at all locations, Arrowood says, which led to their arrests last week.
Suspects allegedly washed $5 bills and printed $100 bills from the washed bills, according to police reports.
Tryon Police Department, Columbus Police Department and the U.S. Secret Service investigated. Cooperation between local departments and the U.S. Secret Service led to the arrest of suspects.
When you have multiple jurisdictions where fraud is committed, cooperation between the law enforcement agencies and businesses is the key to solving these types of crimes,&bsp; Chris Beddingfield, Assistant Chief, Columbus Police Department said.
More arrests are expected as the investigation continues.
Both suspects were released on bonds following their arrests.
