Grant also offers exercise programs
A Community Health Fair will be held Saturday, Sept. 10 at the Zion Grove A.M.E. Zion Church G. Riddle Banquet Hall, 5620 Pea Ridge Rd., in Rutherfordton, N.C. (Green Creek community).
This health fair is sponsored by the Unity in the Community organization and made possible by a grant from Healthy Polk County and the Polk County Community Foundation.
The health fair will be from 9 a.m. until noon and will offer glucose screening, blood pressure check, body fat analysis and information provided by Carolina Chiropractic, Dest Family Dentistry and more. Door prizes will be given away and free food will be provided. A special Zumba exercise class will be held at 11 a.m. with Felicia Hipp, instructor.
This will be the second community health fair that Unity in the Community has sponsored this year. The purpose of the grant is to motivate and inspire the residents of Polk County to move more and to live a healthier lifestyle.
Committee members Roy and Michelle Miller said they are also enthusiastic about the participation of Tryon residents in the Zumba class funded by the grant that is now being offered at the Roseland Center each Thursday night at 7:15 p.m. Anya Huneycutt, who is a certified instructor, states that her goal is for everyone to experience positive life changes that can be obtained through Zumba exercises.
The grant also has made it possible to offer aerobics exercise classes each Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. at the Zion Grove A.M.E. Zion Church with Felicia Hipp, instructor.
