Arthur Edwin Ed Lanning, 82, of 160 Lanning Drive, Columbus, died Saturday, April 10, 2010 at his home.

Born in Hendersonville, N.C., he was the son of the late Jerry and Eva McGuinn Lanning. He was owner and operator of City Garage in Columbus for 10 years and later was the automotive instructor at Polk Central High School and also was a carpenter. Mr. Lanning was a past Chief of the Columbus Volunteer Fire Department.&bsp;&bsp;&bsp;&bsp;&bsp;&bsp;&bsp;&bsp;&bsp;&bsp;&bsp;&bsp;&bsp;&bsp;&bsp;&bsp;&bsp; &bsp;

Surviving is his wife, Gladys Abernathy Lanning of the home.&bsp; Two sons, Arthur Lanning, Joe Lanning, and one daughter, Rachel Lanning all of Columbus. One brother Robert Lanning, two sisters, Estelle Herbert and Edith Case all of Columbus. Also surviving are four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2010 in Polk Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Robert Capps officiating. &bsp;
