Life in the village

To the Editor:
Its Sunday evening and Im watching some amazing ice skaters on TV as the first full week of the 2010 Winter Olympics comes to an end. Their talents and tenacity are compelling and inspiring but
What was even more compelling and inspiring have been two local events this weekend.&bsp; On Friday night we were so privileged and entertained at the opening night of The Tryon Little Theatres Sound of Music. &bsp;
The sets that were locally designed and painted were beautiful, and the performance by the multitudes of talented actors was professional and heartfelt.
On Sunday afternoon we again gathered on the village green with a multitude of villagers to see the beautiful Nina Simone statue dedicated. The sun was shinning, the birds were singing, the white doves (local white homing pigeons) of peace soaring and Nina was honored in her home town a long overdue tribute to a woman of talent and true conviction. &bsp;
The performance at the Polk County High School afterward was another amazing array of talent and dedication.
It does take a village and I feel honored to be amongst ye.
