Rhonda Anderson of Motlow Creek Gardens will be speaking to the Tryon Garden Club on February 17 at 1 p.m. The Garden Club will be meeting at the Columbus office of the American Red Cross on Ward Street. Her presentation on deer resistant plants is open to the public.

Anderson is the co-owner of the Motlow Garden Center. She has owned this business for 10 years and she provides landscape consultation and design services as well as free gardening seminars for the public. Anderson is a native of Campobello. She has a bachelors degree in science and a landscape management certificate in horticulture. She is a member of the Royal Horticulture Association, the South Carolina Nursery & Landscape Association (SCNLA) and the Perennial Plant Association.

Andersons horticulture background started as a pre-teen with her Grandmother Williams who grew hummingbird vine up her front porch and into her hemlock tree, along with popper plants, easter egg thorn, and Tommy toe tomato plants. Her experience provides her with a solid perspective on which plants do best when challenged by the presence of deer in the area.

Anderson has been the guest speaker at several area garden clubs in Tryon, Spartanburg, Greer, Travelers Rest, Greenville and Landrum. She has also been the guest speaker for the Gaston County Master Gardeners in Gaston County, N.C. and she has spoken at the SCNLA annual meeting. She is also the program director for gardening seminars at the Foothills Equestrian and Nature Center (FENCE) in Tryon.
