A&bsp;new majority on Columbus Town Council wasted no time in firing town manager Tim Holloman.
Council held the swearing in ceremony for newly elected mayor Eric McIntyre, newly elected council member Ernie Kan and re-elected council members Michael Gage and Margaret Metcalf last Thursday at 6 p.m., then entered a lengthy closed session to discuss a personnel issue and opened the meeting to terminate Holloman.
The vote was approved 3-1 with council members Gage, Kan and Metcalf voting for the termination and council member Richard Hall voting against the termination.
Holloman was given a 6-month severance pay package, health insurance, pay for his remaining vacation time and is required by his contract to make himself available for consulting services to the town when needed.
Council appointed Robert Rosseter, the towns current interim public works director as the interim town manager. Kathy Gregory was named active finance director.
Holloman was Columbus Town Manager for the past three years. Kan, who was just elected last month, has expressed concern during public comment portions of town council meetings regarding how Holloman handled business. Gage and Metcalf have also expressed some concern, but the past council majority of former mayor Kathleen McMillian, Ricky McCallister and Hall were supporters of Holloman.
Holloman was hired by Columbus in December, 2006. The town prior to Holloman beginning hired interim manager Robert Shepard following the resignation of former manager Glenn Rhodes.
