Want to learn about local history?

COLUMBUS—Have you ever wanted to learn about our local history but did not know where to start? This month, historians of the Polk County History Museum and the House of Flags Museum are offering a special training session for individuals interested in serving as volunteer docents.

On Saturday, May 24, training will be offered from 10 a.m. to noon, 1 to 3 p.m., and 5 to 7 p.m. The training will be held at 33 Gibson Street in downtown Columbus, the location of not one but two local museums.

Robert Williamson and James Metcalf will be the instructors, and they will provide multiple options for when the history training will begin.

If you have interest and the time to volunteer, simply show up at the museums (behind the historic county courthouse) and be prepared to learn. The volunteers at the House of Flags Museum and the Polk County History Museum look forward to seeing you there.
