COLUMBUS—Polk County Health and Human Services Agency is celebrating and extending its heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated foster parents who open their hearts and homes to children in need across the county.
“Foster families provide not just shelter but a foundation of stability, love, and hope for children who have experienced trauma, neglect, or displacement,” said Polk HHSA Director Joshua Kennedy. “Their selfless service plays a vital role in strengthening our communities and giving vulnerable children a chance to thrive.”
Polk County HHSA works collaboratively with our twenty couples and four single foster parents licensed by our agency. These dedicated families, across Polk, Rutherford, and Henderson Counties, currently support 52 children ranging in age from toddlers to teens.
“We are extremely grateful for our foster parents,” said Ruth Richardson, a licensing and placement social worker for Polk County HHSA. “When we call them asking for assistance, whether it is on short notice or even in the middle of the night, they welcome the opportunity to serve our children and neighbors. They take a moment of disruption and turn it into a moment of compassion for all involved. They are the backbone of child and family services. Their calm approach during a crisis helps children feel safe and valued.”
Foster families work closely with social workers, healthcare providers, educators, and other professionals to ensure that each child’s needs are met holistically. Interested families are encouraged to connect with the Polk County HHSA Licensing Program by calling 828-894-2100 or visiting www.polknc.gov.
