SOFTBALL: Patton offense roars to life in win over Polk County

Patton High School snapped an eight-game losing streak Thursday, collecting 17 hits en route to a 12-1 victory over Polk County in Mountain Foothills 7 Conference softball action in Morganton.

The Panthers (5-13, 2-8) ended the game in the sixth inning via the 10-run rule to secure their second conference win of the season.

Polk County (10-7, 4-4) grabbed an early lead with a run in the top of the first inning. Mia Bradley opened the game with a triple and scored one out later on Junie Mitchell’s single.

But Patton immediately responded with a two-run rally in its half of the first inning, then added six runs over the next two frames to build an 8-1 advantage. The Panthers tacked on two more runs in the fourth inning before scoring twice in the sixth to reach the run-rule threshold.

Bradley’s leadoff triple highlighted the offensive effort for the Wolverines, who were limited to six hits in the loss. Mitchell finished 1-for-3 with the team’s lone RBI.

Tory Coile, Elizabeth Vitale, Sarah Vitale and Laney Littlefield each added singles for Polk County.

Polk County was set to returns to action Friday, traveling to Landrum for a 7:30 p.m. non-conference game.
