BASKETBALL: Landrum Cardinals continue winning streak, Lady Cards suffer setback

LANDRUM— The Landrum Cardinals continued their winning with a big week, while the Lady Cardinals suffered three close losses, including two in overtime.

On Monday, January 27, the Cardinals went on the road, beating the Broome Centurions (10-12)  by a final score of 73-56. Benett Edwards led the scoring effort, contributing 18 points. 

Thursday, January 30, Landrum hosted the Greenville Hurricanes (15-14) in an out-of-region matchup and won again with a commanding 86-60 victory. Benett Edwards again led the team with 23 points on 10 field goals made.

Friday, January 31, back-to-back wins put the Cardinals in prime form as they headed into their region matchup against Brashier Middle College (5-15, 1-8). In a contest that solidified their undefeated week, Landrum defeated the Bengals by a score of 68-45, pushing their record to 16-6 overall and 6-2 in the region. 

In girl’s basketball, the Cardinals lost on the road 43-37 to the Broome Lady Centurions (12-10) in overtime in a non-region loss on Monday. Junior Kylie Fortner led the way with 17 points.

The Lady Cardinals then lost 40-35 to the Greenville Hurricanes Hurricanes (14-3) basketball squad at home in Thursday’s non-league outing.

The Landrum then lost another close game in overtime to Brashier Middle College (5-9, 2-6) 43-45. The consecutive losses brought their record to 11-11, 6-2 on the season. 

The Cardinals boys and girls were set to play Blacksburg on February 4.
