GIRLS BASKETBALL: Polk hands East Rutherford first MF7 loss

Polk County now stands alone atop the Mountain Foothills 7 Conference girls basketball standings.

The Wolverines handed East Rutherford its first league setback on Friday, topping the Cavaliers 62-43 in a conference clash at Polk.

Polk (13-1, 5-0) led most of the way, turning a 14-11 advantage early in the second period into a 31-18 lead at halftime.

East Rutherford (4-11, 3-1) made a brief run early in the third period, closing to within 33-26. But Reeve Carroll and Charley Dusenbury led a Polk County surge during the final half of the quarter, the Wolverines using a 16-5 run to take a 49-31 lead into the final quarter.

Kylie Lewis had 13 points and nine rebounds for Polk, with Bailey Staton scoring 13 points. Carroll finished with 12 points and six steals, with Kiera Littlejohn scoring 10 while hauling in six rebounds.

Dusenbury had six points and five assists, with Mia Bradley scoring four and Jayden Duncan and Amiyah Waters each adding two.

Polk County was set to host Brevard on Tuesday.
