BOYS BASKETBALL: Jackson’s 36-point effort helps propel Polk to win at Chase

Polk County survived a frenzied second half Wednesday to upend Chase 69-62 in a Mountain Foothills 7 Conference matchup in Forest City.

Aaron Jackson poured in 36 points as the Wolverines (3-10, 1-3) emerged the victor in a battle that featured three large scoring runs, two of those by Polk County in the second half to secure the win.

Chase (1-14, 0-4) closed the first half on an 11-4 streal, taking a 37-30 lead into the locker room. But Polk County held the Trojans scoreless in the third quarter, with Trajan Littlejohn hitting a free throw with 7:44 left in the fourth quarter to finally half the run. By then, Polk led 41-37.

Littlejohn’s free throw kicked off an 8-4 Chase spell that gave the Trojans a 45-43 edge with 5:10 remaining. But Chase wouldn’t score again until the 2:30 mark, and Jackson and Dallas Littlejohn fueled a 14-0 Wolverine surge that gave Polk a 57-45 advantage. Chase would get no closer than six in the final seconds.

Jackson had 12 field goals and 12 free throws to account for his 36 points. Littlejohn added 13, with Khalil Austin scoring seven.

Gunnar Alm had four points, Khristian Littlejohn had three and Jayce Edwards and Chase Stansbury each scored two for Polk.

The Wolverines were set to return home Friday to host East Rutherford for another MF7 battle.
