William Thomas “Tommy” Poteat, 76, of Tryon passed away on January 13, 2025.  He was the son of the late T.B. Poteat and Ellen Bennett Nodine and the husband of Sharon Edney Poteat.

He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War.  He retired as a truck driver after 20 years as owner and operator and was a Pike Electrical Contractor for 17 years.

He is survived by his wife Sharon Edney Poteat; a son Mark Poteat; a brother Wayne Poteat (Helen); three grandchildren Jacob Poteat, Courtney Dobbins, and Brailee Poteat; a great granddaughter Madeline Dobbins; a sister in law Brenda Poteat; and was loved by many nieces and nephews.

 

He was predeceased by a brother Michael “Benny” Poteat.

 

The family will receive friends from 2:00-2:45 Friday, January 17, 2025 at Petty Funeral Home.  A memorial service will follow at 3:00pm at the funeral home chapel.
