TRYON—After an impressive 31-year career at Hometrust Bank, Brenda Henson is preparing to retire, marking the end of an era that began at Tryon Federal Savings & Loan. Henson, who joined the bank in 1993, has decided to hang up her hat on December 31, a date that carries significant meaning for her and her colleagues.

“When I retire, it will be 31 years and 10 months,” Henson shared as she reflected on her journey. “It’s astounding to think how quickly time has passed.”

She reminisced about the early days of her career when she faced unexpected challenges, like being unable to get to work due to storm damage after only being on the job for a few weeks.

“I missed a whole week, but they not only welcomed me back but paid me for that time,” she recalled. This support solidified her commitment to the bank and its team.

“At that point, I knew this would be where I retire.”

Henson began her career as a teller and has worked in several positions she has embraced with pride, including head teller. Over the years, she witnessed the evolution of banking, particularly with the advent of online banking. “When we first introduced online banking, I was hesitant to use it,” she admitted. “But it’s become an essential service for so many.”

Colleagues and customers alike will deeply miss Brenda’s presence at the bank.

“It’s going to be a huge adjustment without Brenda,” said Branch Manager Sonya Laughter. “She has played a critical role in ensuring our branches run smoothly. I’ve had a lot of people come in and say they can’t believe Brenda’s leaving.”

As Henson looks forward to retirement, she is excited about spending more time with family, especially with the arrival of her first great-grandchild. “That makes the holidays more special,” she said, beaming with pride.

Brenda Henson’s farewell is not just a goodbye to her colleagues but a heartfelt thank you to the community that supported her throughout her journey.

“I would just like to thank everyone for the opportunities I’ve had here. It has been a significant part of my life,” she said.

Brenda is ready to embrace a new chapter, leaving a legacy of dedication and warmth that will surely be remembered at Hometrust Bank.
