South Carolina studio filming holiday movie, “Christmas in Mistletoe”
TRYON—Mountain Laurel Films, a studio based out of the Dark Corner area, was shooting scenes in downtown Tryon on Monday for an upcoming feature film called “Christmas in Mistletoe.” The movie is being produced in association with KCD Media LLC and Jackrabbit Media.
The studio’s film Are You There? earned Best Narrative Feature Film at the 2024 Tryon International Film Festival.
A camera crew was seen filming along the sidewalk on Trade Street. “We are working on a twelve-day shoot right now,” director Collins Abbott White said. Last December, footage of the Tryon International Equestrian Center light show and Campbell’s Bridge in Landrum was captured for the movie. Scenes have also been shot at the Green Life Inn in Lynn.
Producers Vicki Vass and Brian Tedeschi co-wrote the holiday film, which centers around Willow Bends, played by Kabby Borders, a disillusioned movie location scout who has lost her Christmas spirit.
“With a little Christmas magic, (Willow) finds herself starring in her own real-life Christmas movie with the perfect leading man in a cozy mountain town,” Vass told the Bulletin. “I fell in love with Tryon and the region, and I thought it was the ideal setting for a Christmas movie; it is charming and beautiful.”
Filming is planned to wrap soon, and the film’s release date and screening locations have yet to be determined.
Vass said that extras are needed for a scene being filmed on Friday, December 20, at the Fitzgerald. For more information, email production manager Stephanie Franklin at goforfranklin@.gmail.com.
