Bailey Staton knocked out her milestone, then helped Polk County knock out East Henderson.
The Wolverine junior guard scored her 1,000th career point early in the second quarter of Thursday’s game with East Henderson, then finished with 25 points to lead the Wolverines to a 72-42 triumph over the Eagles.
Polk County (2-0) struggled a bit early to find its offensive rhythm, taking a 14-8 lead at the end of the opening quarer. But Staton and Reeve Carroll teamed for 14 points in the second period as Polk opened a 34-20 lead at the half.
The Wolverine defense locked down the Eagles (1-2) in the third period and Polk began to pull away, pushing its advantage past 20 points and keeping it there the rest of the evening.
Kylie Lewis added 14 points and Carroll finished with 12. Charley Dusenbury added nine points as Polk hit eight 3-pointers in the win, five of those from Staton.
Kiera Littlejohn added six points, with Mia Bradley and Jayden Duncan each finishing with two.
Polk County completes its pre-Thanksgiving schedule on Tuesday, traveling to Madison for a non-conference battle.
