LANDRUM—In a hard-fought contest on Senior Night, the Landrum Cardinals (5-4, 1-3) saw their halftime lead slip away, resulting in a disappointing 44-34 defeat against the Chesnee Eagles (4-5, 2-1) in a 2A Region 1 battle.

The game began with both teams struggling offensively, each exchanging punts in the first quarter. Chesnee struck first with a 34-yard field goal, and Landrum responded with a creative fake punt that led to a first down before culminating in a stunning 61-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Ty Foster to AJ Lindsey. After a missed PAT, the Cardinals took a brief 6-3 lead.

As the second quarter unfolded, the Eagles regained momentum with a rushing touchdown, followed by a successful extra point, pushing Chesnee ahead 10-6. Landrum quickly answered with another rushing touchdown from Foster, reclaiming the lead at 13-9 just before halftime.

However, the second half proved to be a different story. Chesnee opened strong, scoring on a 52-yard touchdown pass, followed closely by another rushing touchdown, extending their lead to 29-20. Despite a strong effort by Landrum, including another touchdown from Foster to Braylon Revis, the Eagles maintained their momentum through to the fourth quarter.

In the final minutes, even after a valiant touchdown effort from Kirby Gentry, which brought the Cardinals within striking distance at 44-34, time ran out on Landrum’s chance for a comeback.

The Cardinals will look to regroup as they prepare for the first round of the 2A playoffs against the Central Eagles (8-2, 4-1) on Friday, November 15, at 7:30 p.m. in Pageland, S.C.
