Polk Rural Forever to host County Board of Commissioners Candidate Forum

Event to take place at Polk County High School on Oct. 15

 

COLUMBUS—The six candidates for seats on the Polk County Board of Commissioners will participate in a Candidate Forum sponsored by a new community coalition, Polk Rural Forever, on October 15 at 7 p.m. at the Polk County High School Auditorium.

The candidates are Paul Beiler (R), Ray Gasperson (D), Jennifer Hargett (R), Libby Morris (D), Karen Pack (D) and Myron Yoder (R). All candidates have indicated that they will attend.

Co-hosts with Polk Rural Forever for the event are Conserving Carolina, Polk County Farm Bureau, and Saluda Community Land Trust.  

Walker, Wallace and Emerson and Town and Country Realty of the Carolinas are sponsors for the forum. Jeff Byrd will coordinate the program.  

The moderator for the event is James Hrynshyn, host of the popular local podcast Polk Lore, devoted to the culture, geography, and politics of Polk County. James is a freelance science editor and communications consultant. He has degrees in journalism and biology and started his journalism career in 1988 in Cape Cod, Mass. He then spent 17 years as a newspaper reporter and editor in Canada before moving to Saluda in 2005. 

The event will feature questions by the moderator to the candidates and, following a brief intermission, questions submitted by the audience.
