TRYON—Ian Griggs, a candidate who had been running for Tryon Town Council, has announced his withdrawal from the race for the expired Board of Commissioners seat.

Despite his decision to withdraw from the race, his name will still appear on the ballot.

“I was hopeful that my schedule would allow for a strong bid for a town council seat, however due to unforeseen circumstances I am pulling out of the race,” Griggs said in a statement about his withdrawal. “I will not be able to give the town the attention it so deserves. I feel we have a great pool of candidates that can and will be able to lead Tryon into the next four years and beyond.”

He added, “My love for our town remains and I hope to be involved as much as possible.”

Initially one of five candidates vying for the expired four-year seat on the Board of Commissioners, Griggs’s departure leaves Skip Crowe, Ray Fulk, Tracie Greenway Morris, and Steve Nelon in the race for the position.

There will be a candidate forum at the Tryon Depot on October 7.
