Polk County very nearly took down the top girls tennis team in the Mountain Foothills 7 Conference.
The Wolverines pushed Hendersonville to the limit Wednesday, dropping a 5-4 decision to the Bearcats in a conference match at Jackson Park.
Hendersonville (6-2) has not lost a conference match since 2016, a 5-4 loss to Owen when the Bearcats were part of the Western Highlands Conference. The Wolverines (5-1) did all they could to end that streak.
Cate Brown and Mia Wolfe scored singles wins for Polk, with Brown teaming with Bella Sheffron for a win at No. 2 doubles and Wolfe teaming for a triumph at No. 3 doubles.
Ultimately, Hendersonville’s victories at the top four singles spots set the stage for its win.
Polk County is set to return to action Thursday, hosting R-S Central for a 4 p.m. match.
