LANDRUM—On Saturday night, Landrum Farmers Market hosted its second annual Taste of the Market, drawing between 400 and 500 attendees who had RSVP’d for the free event. From 6 to 8 p.m., the event featured 25 farmers market vendors and three local restaurants, each offering a delectable array of flavors.

The samples served at the event were primarily sourced from ingredients purchased from market vendors. Participating restaurants showcased their unique dishes, with Side Street Pizza serving roasted veggie ciabatta sandwiches, Southside Smokehouse presenting a Southern BLT with green garlic aioli, and The Rural Seed offering a refreshing summer salad.

Vendors at the event included Cosmic Candy, Roots & Wings, Sweet Treats by Laura, Dixie Farms, The Eggroll Lady, Yoder’s Trading Post, Noah’s Honey, Luken’s Land and Cattle, Noddin Berry Farms, Bluebird Coffee, KB Farm & Health, Cinch Blend Spices, Robino’s, Lit’l Mushroom Farm, Butterfly Cakes & Cookies, Micros & More, Blazin’ Brittany’s Kitchen, Viktar’s Bee Farm, Bison Berry Farm, Sugar Baker, The Good Ground Farm, and Eat the Leaf. In addition, Chanticleer Blooms provided beautiful flower arrangements for the event.

“We’re excited to show off what the Farmers Market has that anyone can get, from bison burgers to blueberries,” said Lisa Gunter, the market’s volunteer manager. “The Taste of the Market is a wonderful showcase of the market’s products and all the possibilities. We’re so lucky to have so many wonderful vendors and restaurants participating.”

Joann James, Assistant Manager of Landrum Farmers Market, highlighted the community aspect of the event. “The Taste of the Market brings the community together with the farmers and the restaurant owners working together to bring a taste of the market to everyone,” James said.

Local chefs and vendors expressed their appreciation for the market and the event, with Sarah McClure, chef at Southside Smokehouse, noting, “As a South Carolina Chef Ambassador, I’ve done tastings like this all over the SouthEast, and it’s nice to have one here locally close to home.”

Juanita Holub of Butterfly Cakes & Cookies emphasized the quality of ingredients sourced from the Landrum Market, stating, “I think all the ingredients I sourced from the Landrum Market make my cookies and cakes ten times better.”

Adrienne Wilson of Rural Seed added, “I shop the market often, and it’s great we live in such an agri-diverse area, especially for a restaurant like ours.”

The Taste of the Market was made possible thanks to a Polk County Community Foundation grant, with the City of Landrum graciously providing the Joe Cunningham Pavilion for the event. The organizers also honored Joe Cunningham, who ran the Market for many years when it was located at the train depot, by designating the day as Joe Cunningham Day.

The Landrum Farmers Market takes place on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon at 221 W. Rutherford Street.
