POLK COUNTY—Positions are still available for the Polk County Middle School Band, and PCMS Director of Bands Christopher Wilson says it’s crucial for the community to spread the word for the band program to grow.
Approximately 50 students have signed up for the 6th-grade band so far, but 60 to 75 participants are needed. With well over a hundred rising 6th-graders in the county, there is the potential to have 70 kids in the 6th-grade band.
“If we can achieve (70 kids) consistently for at least three years, the high school should maintain around 65 in marching band and 70 in concert band, give or take,” says Wilson.
Students’ parents can fill out an interest form for the band at https://www.bepartofthemusic.org/group/index.php?id=8829. The site is a one-stop shop for anything related to signing up for the band next year, and interested parties can find links to rent an instrument online.
Wilson says if students already have an instrument they would like him to check out, they can drop it off at the school with a name and email, and he will look at it to see if it can be used in the program.
