Donald Henry Wilson, Jr., 89, of Roswell, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 24, 2024, at Brookdale Chambrel’s Memory Care. Born in St. Joseph, Missouri, Donald was a man of many accomplishments and deep community involvement. He graduated from San Mateo High School in California and earned his degree in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1956, where he also served as President of Sigma Nu Fraternity. After serving his country as a Captain in the United States Air Force, Don embarked on a distinguished 35-year career with AT&T, beginning and ending in Atlanta, Georgia. Upon retirement in 1994, he and his beloved wife, Joanna Baber Wilson, made their home in Tryon, North Carolina. Don’s retirement years were marked by active community engagement. He was a dedicated member of The Congregational Church of Tryon, serving twice as Senior Deacon. His leadership extended to various local organizations, including roles as President of the Tryon Rotary Club and President of the Carolina Camera Club. As a founding member of The Write Group, Don continued to pursue his passion for learning and creativity. A kind, intelligent, gentleman, Don was well-loved and respected by family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Joanna; daughters Callie Wilson Bruns of Marietta, Georgia, and Aimee D’Meza (Jay) of Milton, Georgia; and three grandchildren: Sam Bruns of Charlotte, North Carolina, and TJ and Ansley D’Meza of Milton, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald H. Wilson and Virginia Bartholomew Wilson, and his sister Beverly Johnson (Larry) of Carmel, California. Don was known for his love of history, a quick wit, and was a gifted writer and an award-winning photographer. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Interment will be at Georgia National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to The Congregational Church of Tryon, NC, or Amity Care Hospice.
