North Henderson pitcher Stash Spear shouted and threw his glove high into the air at the end of Tuesday’s game with Polk County.

A complete-game no-hitter certainly merited that celebration.

Spear shut down the Wolverine offense, striking out six while holding Polk hitless to help lead the Knights to a 6-0 non-conference victory at The Bottoms.

Spear’s joy as he retired Mark Jarrett for the final out also undoubtedly included some relief – the junior threw 103 pitches and would have been forced to leave the game had he reached 105 at the end of any Polk at-bat.

Polk County still had its chances to score, getting a runner to third in the first with one out and runners on first and second with one out in both the second and third innings. The Wolverines had at least one runner in each inning but the seventh, taking advantage of three walks, a hit batter and two errors. But Spear worked out of each jam in his no-hit gem.

Polk starter Noah Harden also pitched well, allowing four hits in five and a third innings. Two of those hits came in the sixth inning when the Knights put together a four-run rally, extending their two-run lead at that point to 6-0.

Karson Scruggs relieved and didn’t allow a hit in an inning and two-thirds.

Polk County is set to be back in action on Wednesday, hosting East Henderson for another non-conference outing.
