Polk County battled back from a pair of deficits Thursday to earn a 2-2 draw with East Henderson in girls soccer action in Flat Rock.
In their season opener, the Wolverines fell behind early as East’s Meagan Porter scored on a free kick from just outside the penalty area.
But Polk responded in the 14th minute as Elena Carroll took a pass from Caroline Taylor and hit a drive into the right corner of the net, evening the score.
The Eagles (0-0-2) again took the lead early in the second half on a Lorena Salazar goal. But the Wolverines answered in the 76th minute as Gabby Savaia collected the rebound off a Taylor shot and poked it home to even the score.
East Henderson finished with 10 shots while Polk County had seven.
“We had to handle a very aggressive team and showed some determination coming from behind twice,” said Polk County head coach Lennox Charles.
The two teams are set to meet again Monday at 6 p.m. in G.M. Tennant Stadium.
