TRYON—At 11 a.m. on Monday, Carolina Drive in Tryon was closed from Braewick Rd. to Red Bird Rd. for a major water line repair.
The broken water line caused icy conditions along the 300 block of Carolina Dr. earlier on Monday.
Workers were on the scene Monday morning with heavy machinery to resolve the issue.
“My daughter was coming in from work this morning at 7 a.m.,” said Tryon resident Kathy Sitton, “and she got up there (to the old hospital) and she saw water running down the street. She said the street was covered with water and ice and her car slid. She was afraid.
“Someone coming down Carolina Drive might slip and go over the bank, and I said we’ve got to call somebody. So we dialed 911, and they said they’ve got someone there already and they were taking care of that.”
Officials at Tryon Town Hall described the issue as “a basic water line leak.”
Water service was restored after the line was repaired and the road was reopened by 3:15 p.m., according to a statement released by the town.
