SALUDA—The Young Actors Krew (YAK) of Mountain Page Theater in Saluda recently starred in a music video produced by the “Our Only World” project, a global program designed to protect oceans and waterways for future generations. The video premiered over the weekend.

The music video, which is the second in the series, aims to inspire the elimination of single-use plastic from waterways and landscapes worldwide. The videos are the brainchild of David Smart, a composer and producer from the United Kingdom known for his work in composing TV ads. The first video got such a strong reception it was even played in Picadilly Square in London.

The “Our Only World” project envisions a video from every country, with production currently underway in Mexico and Kenya next on the list. However, the video production in Polk County is a significant milestone, making the town the only one in the US to represent this worldwide program.

“Local resident John Case had seen David Smart’s first video and came to us with the idea of doing a similar one,” said Mountain Page Theater Executive Director Corinne Gerwe. “After some conversations and changes to the lyrics to focus more on our area’s mountains, streams and rivers rather than the ocean like the first video, we began production.”

The video was shot at Harmon Field and Twin Lakes in September and even featured a special guest, Bigfoot, played by Sam Woodbery. The Young Acting Krew held a live performance of “Our Only World” at Mountain Page Theater on Saturday. The free event allowed the performers to meet David Smart, who traveled to Saluda from England.

“The kids really poured their hearts into the video,” said Gerwe. “Even the youngest member, who is only two years old, took part and as anyone who watches the video can see became one of the stars of it.”
