SPARTANBURG CO.—Election Day was November 7, and the unofficial results are in for the handful of local races in our area.

A referendum was on the ballot for Spartanburg County voters where they were asked if they were in favor of a 1% sales tax to raise funds for road improvements. Over 55% of voters approved of the measure. 

Five candidates were running for three seats on the Landrum City Council. Robert Farmer,  incumbent Shannon Dotson and Warren Ashmore got the most votes in that race, with 27%, 26% and 24% of the votes, respectively.

Nine people were running for four seats on the Spartanburg County District 1 School Board. The most votes went to Wanda McDowell, with 16%, followed by Billy Cothran III, Gene Vanderford and Barbara G. Hopper.

Incumbents Joe McDowell and Alician C. Sprouse were re-elected to the Campobello Town Council, and Joe Brown and Tiffany Freel were elected to the Landrum Fire and Rescue Commission.  

There were no races in Polk County this year after a law passed in North Carolina shifting local elections in Polk, Henderson and Rutherford counties to even years to coincide with state and federal elections.
