Grand opening attracts hundreds despite poor weather
LANDRUM—The new Aldi grocery store in Landrum kicked off its Grand Opening at 8:45 a.m. on August 10, just after its ribbon-cutting ceremony. The store’s soft opening was Wednesday, August 9.
Hundreds showed up and braved the pouring rain Thursday morning to attend the ceremony and be some of the first groups of shoppers to visit the store.
Located at 1750 Hwy. 14 East, Aldi is known for its low prices and unique warehouse-style shelving.
At its grand opening, the store offered free tote bags and a chance to win a $500 gift card. There were also free bags of “Aldi goodies,” that included potato chips, beverages, sweets, a candle and a keychain quarter holder.
Some excited customers had waited in line since 3:45 a.m. for the ribbon cutting.
“Since we’ve moved here, we’ve been traveling to Boiling Springs [to visit an Aldi] which is, you know, 25 minutes away,” said customer Dustin Zlacki. “Aldi has quality food at excellent prices. Everything about it is just perfect. It’s great. I love it.”
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was also attended by Landrum Mayor Robert Briggs, City Manager Rich Caplan, Police Chief Jason Coffin and Landrum City Council members Shannon Dotson, Judy Henderson, Joyce Whiteside and Tammy Cox.
“We’re really thrilled to be here at Landrum, South Carolina,” said Aldi District Manager Brianna Manculich. “I know the customers are extremely excited and our staff is really looking forward to serving our community here.”
The Landrum Aldi is open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
