Development underway at project on Rutherford St.
LANDRUM—Landrum residents can look forward to the development of a new strip mall coming to the city.
The building will be located at 803 East Rutherford St., and will sit on 1.62 acres, housing 4,200 sq. ft. across four units.
Piedmont Construction SC Inc, the company responsible for the construction, performed three revisions before the Landrum Board of Commissioners approved the design.
The building’s blueprint includes a stone wall foundation, white vertical siding and a metal roof sixteen feet high at its peak.
The entire middle unit will have a parapet wall to increase the height, with an open gable in the middle, at the suggestion of the board. The final outline also has decorative pieces of molding at the top and bottom, as the builder didn’t feel corbels fit the overall design.
“We all meet and discuss changes and what can be done to keep the structural integrity, but added some of the curb appeal that was suggested,” said Chris Morris of Piedmont Construction.
In addition, usable wood from the property’s removed trees that weren’t distributed to local sawmills will be incorporated into some of the finished units.
“Currently we [have had] lots of interest from several businesses. Some are local and others are interested in moving to Landrum,” Morris said.
Grading of the land has already begun, and construction is projected to begin in August.
