Qualon Sutton arrested on first degree murder charges
MILL SPRING—A Mill Spring man is in custody after a fatal shooting that occurred at a home on Fox Mountain Rd. Monday morning.
Qualon Konter Sutton, 21, was arrested Monday night for the alleged murder of his father, Robert “Bo” Forney.
At around 11:30 a.m. on July 17, Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to 3653 Fox Mountain Rd. after receiving a call about shots being fired. When deputies arrived, Forney was pronounced dead at the scene due to multiple gunshot wounds.
An AR-15 semi-automatic rifle was allegedly used in the shooting outside the residence, where both the suspect and victim lived.
While interviewing neighbors and witnesses, detectives learned that Sutton had been involved in an altercation with his father earlier in the day.
After further investigation, detectives presented evidence to a magistrate who issued a first degree murder warrant for Sutton.
Sutton was taken into custody without incident at approximately 10 p.m. on Monday outside his mother’s residence near the Polk/Rutherford county line, according to a statement from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives are continuing to investigate the shooting and the case will be turned over to the 42nd Prosecutorial District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
In a statement, Sheriff Wright thanked the members of the public who provided information that led to Sutton’s arrest, as well as the US Marshals Service, Fletcher Police Department and Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance.
