Iron Key uses beer vats to provide 300 gallons of fresh water to community
COLUMBUS—Iron Key Brewing Company offered free, fresh and clean water to the community during the water boil advisory last week in Columbus.
Last week, the town of Columbus issued a water boil advisory due to a leak in the town’s water lines that could have potentially tainted the town’s water supply. According to officials, water consumers in the town of Columbus experienced periods of low pressure and outages in the distribution system because of the leak.
As a service to the community, Iron Key Brewery emptied their beer brewing vats and used them to boil approximately 300 gallons of water, issuing a statement inviting the community to bring receptacles of up to five gallons to their location for free, clean water.
“It’s a good message to tell business people that they can offer help to their community,” said Iron Key co-owner Rodney Dofort. “The response was very emotionally positive because of the support.”
Iron Key will host Cousins Maine Lobster Truck on Monday, July 10, from 4 to 8 p.m., with the possibility of having more food trucks in the future. The brewery also features trivia nights from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on Thursdays.
